The Masters Tournament is held every April at the pristine Augusta National Golf Club, in Augusta, GA. Each year, the Masters champion is awarded with the coveted green jacket presented by the previous years winner. Augusta National, considered one of the greatest golf courses on the planet, was originally conceived by legendary golfer Bobby Jones and designed by Alister MacKenzie. Jones then had the idea to establish an annual tournament on this now hallowed ground, and Horton Smith won the first Masters Tournament in 1934. Since, such illustrious names as Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods have all had the pleasure of wearing the jacket multiple times. Nicklaus has the most victories with six, while Palmer and Woods have each won four times.

While the tournament always produces a daunting field, just conquering Augusta is a challenge in itself. While the entire course is both beautiful and difficult, perhaps no singular hole in golf is more famed and feared than Augusts notorious 12th, or the road hole as it is affectionately known.

The Augusta National golf club, while being celebrated every April, has also been accused of late as being both a racist and sexist institution. While the tournament was successfully segregated in 1975, The Augusta Golf Club did not except its first member until 1990, and has still yet to except a female member.

Even though controversy may constantly surround the course, the Masters Tournament remains one of the most highly regarded sporting events around the world.
