Here's some banter around the NFL about who's hot in the receiving core this year:

It is that time of year again. The time we all wait for. It is only a few days away. The start of the 2011 NFL season! What also starts is the great debate of who will be this years top wide receiver. There are many candidates out there who want this title but only one can claim it when the dust finally settles. Here is my list of the players with the most potential to win the top wide receiver of 2011 award. I think that there are 6 or 7 players who fit the bill as the best possible candidate.

It could be one of the Johnson boys, Calvin or Andre? Maybe Roddy White, Larry Fitzgerald, or Greg Jennings. Could this years winner be someone like last years holdout Vincent Jackson. All of these are great NFL wide receivers and worthy of claiming the top receiver award but let us look at some potential pitfalls that surround them. First lets look at Vincent Jackson, is last years contract dispute going to affect him this year. San Diego's quarterbacks had to throw to other wide receivers and that may have caused Phillip Rivers to become more comfortable with them and less with Vincent. Time will tell on this one but a great wide receiver will still get his catches. Roddy White has become one of the top wide receivers in the NFL. He has a great quarterback throwing him the ball, a strong running game to take the pressure of the passing game, and Atlanta gets to play Carolina twice. What we do not know about Roddy and Atlanta's passing game is what the impact of rookie Julio Jones will be. Fortunately for Roddy, rookie wide receivers rarely make a huge impact.

Larry Fitzgerald has been a star in the NFL from almost day one. He has had to endure a terrible quarterback situation, no running game to speak of, and being on a really bad team. Arizona plays in a weak division which helps wide receivers like Larry Fitzgerald if they have a quarterback that can get them the ball. This year Arizona picked up Kevin Kolb. If Kevin plays like the quarterback that Philadelphia thought he was then Fitzgerald will be at the top of the league as this years top wide receiver. The question is which Kevin Kolb will show up. Greg Jennings seems to have everything going for him to win the top wide receiver spot. He has a great quarterback on a super bowl winning team, a good running game that keeps the defenses honest, and a team that loves to pass. There are a few problems Greg may have to overcome. They spread the ball around a lot in Green Bay. One game he may be targeted 10 times and another only once.

Green Bay also plays a lot of games outdoors in potential bad weather. The Johnson's both have the same problem. Will there quarterback be on the field the whole season. At Detroit Calvin Johnson has Matt Stafford throwing to him, when he is healthy. Matt Stafford has yet to last even half the season. Andre Johnson has Matt Schaub at quarterback who is also injury prone. If either had Brady throwing to him we would not have to have a discussion.
