Ligue 1 is the elite French professional football league competed by top 20 clubs of France. The league started in 1932 and since it has become one of the top five major leagues in Europe, as determined by European league ranking system. The current season runs from August to June constituting 380 games where every team plays 38 games, each. Since its inception, Lyon has dominated this league like none other teams in similar European leagues. Such was this dominance that Lyon has won most league titles since 1990 and ruthlessly tamed its rival by winning from a margin of 15 points in 2005 and 17 points the following season. Fortunately, this dominance has been halted by Bordeaux and Marseille who won the two most recent league titles. Moreover, there has been an increasing trend from other major clubs to outset Lyon. This trend was evident in the current season which saw smaller clubs upsetting Lyon.
