The 2010-11 Serie A season is under way in Italy. This year three new teams are joining the top league in Italy. Lecce and Cesena earned promotion by finishing in the top two slots in Serie B while Brescia won the third spot in a playoff game.

Inter Milan is the defending champions, having also won the Champions League and the Copa Italia. They are among the top teams each season, and are seeking their sixth consecutive Serie A crown. Inter Milan is clearly the team to beat this season.

AC Milan and Roma figure to be the biggest competition to Inter Milan. Roma finished second last year, only two points behind Inter Milan. AC Milan was third in the league. They are capable of battling Inter Milan for the right to win the league. Regardless, these are the three favorites to earn automatic spots in the group stage for the Champions League.

A wildcard team is Juventus. After a scandal dropped the long time Serie A power to Serie B, Juventus stormed back and seemed to return to their old selves. However, a disappointing finish last year and an opening loss this year give Juventus cause for caution. If they want to contend for a potential spot in the Champions League, they will need to outlast other contenders like Sampdoria, Palermo, and Napoli.

Serie A welcomes some change this season. AC Milan, Inter Milan, and Juventus are among eleven teams with a new coach this season. Serie A is looking to restore some swagger after the league has seen its reputation fall below the EPL and Spanish La Liga. New stars will help restore Serie A to the top league in the world.
