In order to increase effectiveness, the officials have introduced bonus points for team scoring more than three goals in a game. Twice, this experiment has failed to achieve its objective. This rule is presently in place but it does not affect the league points table, and is only reserved for granting additional monetary benefits to the team. There are six major home stadiums that have the capacity of entertaining over 30,000 fans. Among these Estadio da Luz of Benfica is the largest with a holding capacity of more than 65,000 fans, and an average attendance of over 50,000, per game.
